Sierra took these photos of downtown Dallas, TX.
This monument is located in Pioneer Plaza near the Dallas Convention Center. There are 40 Longhorn Steer and 3 Cowboys made of bronze to resemble a cattle drive. This monument is located on part of the actual Shawnee Trail Drive of the 1850s and is the largest bronze monument in the world. The children wanted to sit on them. There was not a sign that said, "Stay Off" but I could see one of our children sitting on the steer and it falling over. Therefore, NO sitting on the steer.
The statues wind down the hill, and through the creek. If these were in color, I would have to look twice to realize that they were statues.
Sierra and I were amazed at the detail. The artist, Robert Summers, not only captured the bulls features but positioned them doing normal daily activities. Here is one steer drinking from the creek, he positioned some running, turning their heads, and raising their tails.
Jeff is teaching the children about the different items on the horse and trail boss statue.
The art museums of Dallas are closed on Mondays. We did enjoy looking around outside at the statues.
While we were waiting on Jeff to get a Nathan's hot dog, we made people statues in front of the Dallas Museum of Art.
A Family Statue
The Dallas Farmers Market is said to be one of the best in the USA. It not only has fruits and veggies but plants to purchase, outdoor landscaping items, and crafts.
I think this was Katie's favorite part of the day. We were amazed that they gave samples and you could drive through the Farmers Market.
This is a view from the 4oth floor of the Chase Towers Building. They have an observatory area that is free. The elevator ride up is worth the trip not to mention the view.
Neiman Marcus was started by Herbert Marcus, Sr., his sister, Carrie, and her husband A. L. Neiman. In 1907, they had $25,000 to invest. They had an opportunity to invest the money in the upcoming Coca-Cola company. Instead they decided to open a retail business. This store has been in business since 1914 on Main Street, Dallas. (Today, Coca-Cola makes more money.) We went in Neiman Marcus and walked around. They have a cafe inside where we bought a cookie and Jeff ate some soup. Things in this store are a lot more expensive than a Coke!We had a great time in Dallas. They is so much to see and do here. It really makes us miss living near a big city.
