When we got up this morning it was warm and sunny. It has been cold for more days than we care to spend in the bus; so today, we decided to get out and see something different.
We started the day visiting Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge has 7 walking trails,an Auto Driving Tour, and an observation tower. We walked on of the Bird Trails overlooking the beach in the above photo. As we walked along the boardwalk, we identified several animal tracks in the damp sand. We saw deer tracks, raccoon tracks, and crab tracks.
After the Bird Trail, we walked up to the Observation Tower. Once at the top of the tower, we looked out over San Antonio Bay and Mustang Lake. While looking out the binoculars we saw a Whooping Crane.
A flock of over 200 Whooping Cranes visit this area each winter. In addition to the Whooping Crane,we also watched Black Vulture, and several shore birds. When we left the Observation Tower, we took the Auto Tour. I think we would have seen more than just Javelina if we had taken this tour early in the morning or late in the day.

The is the Fort at Presidio La Bahia. (I have already written about our visit here but wanted to include some photos.) This fort is known as "The Fort of the Bay".
Hannah and the boys enjoyed playing in the watch tower.
This is a view from the inside of the fort looking through a cannon hole. In the 1830's, a cannon was positioned in this hole.
We enjoyed our day out today. It was full of history, education, and fun.
