Below are some pictures that we took while exploring Big Bend Ranch State Park.
Early settlers harvested the soil from these rocks to build their homes.
I could just imagine someone sitting here digging out this rock.
Wonder why they made so many different holes.
Some holes looked like they were used for storage.
Some holes connected to make tunnels.
I am sure it was back breaking hot strenuous work digging out this rock.
One of the homes made from the soil.
The people that lived here had a beautiful view of the mountains. Their children had lots of room to run, to climb on rocks and to play in the river nearby.
Picture from inside the home of the roof.
Picture of their fireplace/stove.
I think about how this must have kept the family nice and warm on winter nights.
Joshua playing inside.
This is a view from one house looking at another.
Andrew standing under boulder.
In the right corner is Jeff watching Sierra way off in the distance on top of the rocks.
Katie taking a break outside on of the homes.
We had a great time playing on, between, and around the rocks.
Someone stacked these rocks to make a home. Inside this home was some roofing material left from a house next door. There was also soda cans, lots of paper, and other debris.
Right off the side of the road we saw these rock formations.
Rio Grande River flowing through Big Bend Ranch State Park.
We had a great time discovering Big Bend Ranch State Park. Hopefully, we will return one day because we didn't get to hike any of the trails. There is lots to explore in this area. If you are near Big Bend don't miss visiting Big Bend Ranch State Park.
