Today's Discoveries 12/24/09

This was our first Christmas Eve in our bus and it was our first Christmas as a family of 9. We discovered that we could enjoy Christmas movies while eating Christmas goodies just like at our stick house.

Jacob discovered that he didn't like Egg Nog. Sierra tries Egg Nog every year and still doesn't like it. All the other children thought it was delicious.

Melissa and Hannah discovered that they didn't like Christmas cider. Sierra likes it cold but not hot. Everyone else thought it was good. I make this every year during the holidays. It makes the house smell-a-licious. (I will post the recipe soon.)

Jeff discovered that he should take down the tents when 40 to 60 mile per hour winds are expected!! Our Christmas tree had to be redecorated; however, when it blew over the second time, Sierra just said that it wasn't worth redecorating it again. Then a huge gust of wind came and blew over both tents. This changed our plans for dinner tonight because we could not cook outside.

I discovered that I could cook on our electric burner inside the bus. I cooked one of Jeff's favorite meals tonight - Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo. This was the first time that I have had to cook inside.

Andrew, Melissa, Jacob, and Sierra discovered that school on Christmas Eve wasn't a bad thing. Today, Ranger Rex taught us about the Native Americans that lived in this area between 1770 and 1830. He also taught us about the missionaries that came to this area and about life at the mission for the missionaries and Indians. We learned about local plant and animal life. The children got to participate in several hands-on demonstrations. Thanks Ranger Rex!! We had a great time learning with you!!
