What I learned by Melissa

Today, we went on a nature hike. Ranger Paul took us on the hike at Choke Canyon State Park. We saw several birds. Then he told us a story about when the Spaniards came over to America. He said that they brought salt and traded it to the Indians. The Indians liked the salt so much.  When the Indians would kill a skunk, they didn't like the taste of the meat. That was until they put the salt on it. Then he showed us a planted that produced a powder that tasted like salt.  When the Indians didn't have the salt the Spaniards gave them they would use this plant.
During the hike, Ranger Paul talked to us about different kinds of trees. One tree was the Sandpaper Tree. the Indians used the leaves to rub on wood when they were making chairs and other stuff.
I liked the hike at Choke Canyon.
