Today's Discoveries 12/13/09

Today, we discovered San Antonio, Texas. We went to The History Shop where we saw an Alamo Diorama with lights and sound. The history talk narrated by Phil Collins explained the history of the Alamo. We walked around the outside of the Alamo but didn't tour it because we are going back one day next week.

We discovered the "River Walk" during the daylight and decorated with Christmas lights at night. This part of San Antonio reminded me of when I walked through the streets of Amsterdam, Holland years ago. The children liked watching the river boats maneuver through the water. Sierra enjoyed the Art Show along the river bank and Jeff enjoyed the food.

The children discovered homeless people on the street, watched someone eat out of a trash can which produced prayer for the people and talks about people less fortunate than us.

Jeff discovered that it was necessary for Hannah to have a stroller. Thankfully, a little street market had one for sale.

We discovered The Market (El Mercado). It is said to be the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico. This market has lots of Mexican imports for sale and are displayed as if you were walking through the streets of Mexico City. They even have Mexican musicians playing on the streets. We stopped by the restaurant Mi Tierra which has authentic Mexican pasties. We tried the Cream Cheese Campcantans and Carmel Campcanadas. These pastries reminded me of Phillo dough filled with cream cheese or Carmel and folded over. They were flaky and little dry. We all agreed that the Carmel was the best.

We discovered a farmer gutting a pig out in the open for everyone to see. Sierra thought this was totally gross.

We discovered that some rabbits can NOT hop through barb wire fences. As we were driving by this ranch we saw a rabbit who tried to hop through the fence but didn't make it.

We left San Antonia wanting to discover more ... another day.
